WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Law enforcement from Williamson County and Spring Hill teamed up earlier this week to chase after multiple suspects with drugs and weapons.
It went down during the early morning hours on Monday, Feb. 17. Members of the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) stopped a stolen vehicle on Interstate 65 South.
When deputies approached the three occupants inside the vehicle, the driver — described as a minor — reportedly took off, so authorities gave chase.
At one point, the sheriff’s office successfully spiked multiple tires. Dash camera footage of the pursuit shows a left front tire coming off the 2006 Toyota Camry.
The vehicle headed into Spring Hill on Buckner Road. Dash camera video shows the car driving slowly but sliding across the asphalt since it was traveling on its rims.
At one point, the suspect vehicle sideswiped a Spring Hill Police Department (SHPD) patrol car, but the damage was minor and nobody was injured.
Moments later, two of the suspects bailed in different directions. Meanwhile, the person behind the wheel proceeded to drive off before crashing and running away.
Moments were tense as authorities chased after the suspects.
Body camera footage shows a member of the SHPD holding one suspect at gunpoint and yelling, “Show me your hands! Do it now!”
Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office caught 21-year-old Carlos Alberto Diaz-Chavez from Honduras. According to officials, he was charged with evading arrest, manufacture/delivery/sale of meth, possession of drug paraphernalia, and being armed during a dangerous felony. His bond was set at $52,000, but Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has reportedly placed a hold on him.
Inside the car, deputies found 15 grams of meth and multiple weapons, including an AR-15 with a 60-round magazine, as well as a handgun that was reported stolen from a Goodlettsville gun store during a smash-and-grab burglary in December.
At the time of the theft, the gun shop owner told News 2 the suspects were in and out in 30 seconds, acting in a very precise manner.
After finding the juvenile driver hiding near a storm grate, Spring Hill officers asked if he had a gun, but he replied, “No gun; didn’t have gun.”
“Some of the guns that they had were reported stolen, the vehicle may be stolen, so that’s concerning,” SHPD Lt. Mike Foster told News 2. “Whereas they weren’t necessarily intending to come to Spring Hill, we still ended up here, so we’re getting a lot of bleed over from Nashville; it’s coming this way.”
In summary, three suspects ran from the vehicle, two were apprehended, and one is still at large, according to the sheriff’s office.
“This incident highlights the strength of our partnerships within the Williamson County law enforcement community, showcasing effective collaboration and shared commitment to maintaining public safety,” said WCSO Capt. Becky Coyle.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) told News 2 the Toyota used in the chase was taken during a carjacking in the 200 block of Paragon Mills Road on Feb. 7.
According to authorities, the owner said he was sitting in the parking lot when four males pulled up in a black car, got out of their vehicle, ordered him out of the Toyota at gunpoint, forced him onto the ground, and instructed him in Spanish to give them his belongings. After he did so, the four individuals allegedly got into the Toyota and drove out of the apartment complex.
The MNPD said it had been looking for the car, but apparently the license plate had been replaced with a temporary tag when it crashed in Williamson County. Police are reportedly investigating the suspects for other violent crime in Nashville.
No additional details have been released about Monday morning’s pursuit.
