NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Those enrolled in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) supplemental nutrition program from the United States Department of Agriculture can now use a smartphone app to “simplify” their shopping.
The Tennessee Department of Health announced the WICShopper app is now available for both Android and Apple smartphones. The app allows users to check their WIC balance, show WIC store and clinic locations, view recipes, scan products to ensure they are eligible for WIC and “simplify your WIC shopping.”

In order to use the app, all those enrolled in WIC benefits need to do is select Tennessee as their preferred agency once they download the app. They will then register their TNWIC card, and all their benefits will load and be easily accessible.
In the grocery store, users can simply open the app and use the scan feature to double check the products they need to buy are eligible WIC items. The app will then tell users if the item is eligible and they have enough funds to purchase it, if the item is not eligible using WIC benefits, or if the item is eligible but they lack the appropriate funds to purchase it.
