MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — Police took a wanted man into custody Sunday afternoon thanks to an alert from Mt. Juliet’s license plate recognition (LPR) system.
According to the Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD), the Guardian Shield LPR program notified officers about a vehicle linked to a person wanted out of Rutherford County on Sunday, Jan. 12.
Authorities said they quickly found the car on Lebanon Road near Park Glen Drive. The driver — described by officials as a 34-year-old Smyrna man wanted for failure to appear on illegal drug charges — was arrested and booked into the Wilson County Jail.
In what law enforcement described as “a unique twist,” the man was in the middle of delivering a pizza order when he was taken into custody.
“To ensure the customer wasn’t left hungry, one of our officers stepped in and completed the delivery,” MJPD posted on Facebook. “Just another way we serve—even if it means delivering pizza!”
“When you’re wanted but made the bad choice of driving through MJ. 🍕👮#MJGuardianShield caught him, and Officer Schmid made sure the pizza got delivered. Justice served and still hot!” MJPD Deputy Chief Tyler Chandler wrote on social media platform X, including the following picture shared by the department.
No additional details have been released about Sunday’s arrest.
