CHEATHAM COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — An Ashland City woman was stopped Sunday for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI), but she ended up facing more serious charges for her aggressive behavior against law enforcement.
The Ashland City Police Department pulled over Mia Nicole Tabor on Sunday, Jan. 12. The stop was captured on body camera and dash camera footage, showing the escalation in the suspect’s demeanor from calm to furious and combative.
“I’m just headed to see one of my friends, basically to go drink with them. I had to have a couple beers,” Tabor said while sitting in the driver’s seat.
After a failed field sobriety test, Tabor was arrested.
“Are you going to do it or not?” the officer asked. “You’re not even listening.”
“Okay so how many do I do?” Tabor questioned.
The officer replied that he was demonstrating it for her and she wasn’t listening. Tabor insisted that she didn’t need a demonstration but rather an answer regarding how many to do. Then, the officer approached Tabor and told her to put her hands behind her back.
From this point on, the 25-year-old became loud, emotional, and even physical.
“Want me to headbutt you?!” Tabor screamed after unleashing a string of expletives.
When the officer tried to shut the door, Tabor’s leg was still hanging outside. Then, when the officer asked the 25-year-old to get in the car, Tabor became agitated, came out of the vehicle, and physically confronted the officer, who tried to subdue her and get her back in the car. At some point, she got a hand on the officer’s gun.
“And what if I don’t?!” Tabor hollered repeatedly while trying to break free.
“You’re trying to grab my gun,” the officer responded.
“Her hand on the gun, that’s a concern?” News 2’s Andy Cordan asked ACPD Sgt. Alexis Duncan.
“A huge safety concern. I’m not sure she meant to. Like I said, she was already handcuffed and when she jumped out of the car, it might have just been where her hands landed,” Duncan explained.
On the way to jail, Tabor grew angrier, kicking the car windows and partition. The suspect was yelling and even banging her head on the glass.
Once inside the jail, Tabor spit on officers who were putting her into a restraint chair.
“That’s super disrespectful to us and…our officers did a great job of being professional and handling it without getting upset,” Duncan said.
“What’s your takeaway?” Cordan inquired.
“Don’t drink and drive. We will get you, and you will serve the time that you deserve to serve,” Duncan replied.
The woman was charged with DUI and three counts of assault on an officer. She is currently being held in the Cheatham County Jail on a $32,500 bond.
Tabor had no prior arrests in Cheatham County. However, the Metro Nashville Police Department took her into custody in 2017 for driving without a license.
