The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) told News 2 that the crash happened at 5:21 p.m. THP officials said the church bus was traveling on Sulphur College Road when it stopped at a stop sign. The semi-trailer, which was pulling a livestock trailer loaded with cattle, was traveling along Highway 25 West. Then, the bus pulled onto Highway 25 and into the path of the semi-trailer and the semi-trailer struck the right side of the bus.
The semi-trailer consequently overturned and came to a rest on Highway 25 W. There are some injuries as a result of the crash. The Trousdale County sheriff told News 2 five people were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries. The THP said everyone involved in the crash is safe and families have been notified.
The bus was hauling 14 “juvenile” passengers in addition to the driver, the THP said, while only the driver was in the semi-trailer. Livestock that was in the semi-trailer is being offloaded and cleanup at the scene “will take an extended amount of time,” the THP noted.
It is unclear when the road will reopen in Trousdale County.
