NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A proposed apartment housing development planned for a neighborhood off of Hart Lane has drawn the ire of some nearby East Nashville residents.
“We’re losing a lot of the character that I’ve known over the last few years and beyond,” said Jason Richard, who has lived in East Nashville for eight years.
Richard and his neighbor Jeffrey B. each got a notice in the mail saying part of their neighborhood may potentially be rezoned so a developer can build eighty-four multi-family residential units.

“We’re already seeing issues with just the current density and to think that there’s going to be double what the capacity is is something that’s really going to impact the livelihood of not only my house but our neighbors as well,” said East Nashville resident Jeffrey B.
Richard said this is the third notice about proposed new construction he’s gotten in his eight years of living in Nashville and he can already hear two different construction sites across the street.
“And honestly traffic is the biggest thing. I think Hart [Lane] already has a huge traffic issue with people going way over the speed limit…it’s only going to get worse,” he told News 2.
With a nearby middle school and some areas with no sidewalks, they say extra cars on the road could be a safety issue for students walking to school.
News 2 reached out to the project manager who requested the rezoning. The company did not wish to share a statement as of this report, but shared the hearing on this issue originally scheduled for January 9 will be delayed to a later date.
After the hearing, the Metro Planning Commission will make a recommendation to the Metro Council and the council will have a final say on the rezoning request.
