SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers in Sullivan County helped save an injured owl on Monday.
According to THP, troopers noticed an injured Great Horned Owl on the shoulder near mile marker 60 on Interstate 81.
The owl was unable to fly and left in a dangerous spot, prompting troopers to call wildlife authorities.
A veterinary clinic in Kingsport specializing in wildlife stepped in and the owl was taken for treatment, THP said.
“Behind the badge, there’s a heart for service,” Colonel Matt Perry said in a post on social media. “Our troopers may seem serious at times, but this shows how much they care about helping others—people and animals alike.”
By the end of Monday, the vet reported the owl was eating, resting comfortably and is on the road to recovery, THP stated.
