NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 19-year-old was arrested over the weekend in connection with burglaries at short-term rental properties in Nashville.
According to court documents, Jeremiah Norton faces several charges spanning eight counts, including felony burglary and felony vehicle theft after he was arrested Saturday.
Over the course of two days, officers received reports of burglaries at two short-term rentals. The first occurred Friday, Feb. 21 in the 2400 block of Jefferson Street, where the victim reported $350 in cash, the keys to a grey Lexus and the vehicle were stolen from the residence while she was away.
According to police, video surveillance footage showed two people in ski masks entering and exiting the rental.
Metro police said a second burglary was reported at a rental in the 3000 block of Delaware Avenue, where three laptops and a backpack were stolen. Officers reported a broken window on the ground floor was discovered during the investigation.
Authorities utilized location tracking technology in the stolen laptops and Lexus, and all of the items were found to be pinging in the same place, reports said.
Saturday, a Metro police helicopter was deployed to track the Lexus in the 900 block of West Trinity Lane. There, officers reportedly found two people breaking into a black pickup truck.
Officers in a patrol vehicle attempted to conduct a traffic stop, and the Lexus allegedly fled at speeds of up to 100 mph, reports said. The car was eventually stopped by spike strips near Dr. DB Todd Jr Boulevard and Osage Street.
Norton exited the vehicle and reportedly led officers on a pursuit before he was caught and arrested. The second suspect was also detained a short distance away. At this time, the identity of the second suspect has not been released.
Authorities said the stolen laptops and backpack were found in the Lexus and returned to the victims. Over $400 in cash was found while officers searched Norton.
Norton is being held in Metro Jail on an $85,000 bond.
