MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — An officer with the Mt. Juliet Police Department (MJPD) initiated a traffic stop Thursday afternoon for illegal window tint and failure to signal, but the stop ultimately led to the arrest of a man wanted out of Nashville.
The officer witnessed the violations on Lebanon Road near Matterhorn Drive, but conducted the stop just within Hermitage. Once the vehicle stopped, a 36-year-old Nashville man who was a passenger in the vehicle ran toward Tulip Grove Road. The driver, an adult woman, and an 8-year-old remained in the vehicle.
An officer pursued the man on foot and used a Taser during the chase; during the arrest attempt, the man allegedly assaulted the officer. Additional MJPD officers arrived at the scene to help take the man into custody. The officer sustained only minor injuries as a result of the incident and was treated and released by on-scene medics. Out of precaution, the suspect was transported to an area hospital.
Further investigation revealed the man was wanted out of three counties for probation violations related to felony domestic assault with bodily injury in Nashville, felony aggravated assault, violating an order of protection and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon out of Montgomery County. Further, the man was wanted on a contempt of court charge out of Shelby County.
