The Sumner County Commissioners Court awarded the grant to Highpoint Health – Sumner Ascension Saint Thomas, the Sumner County Prevention Coalition, Volunteer Behavioral Health, the Sumner County Health Department and county emergency management services. A key component of the grant, according to a Monday press release, is the creation of a Substance Abuse Recovery Navigator.
The Substance Abuse Recovery Navigator will help bridge the gap between emergency care and ongoing addiction recovery, working with patients who have recently overdosed to connect them with follow-up care and more. You can follow this link to learn more about the role or to apply — as of publication, Highpoint Health is actively seeking to fill the role.
“This grant underscores Sumner County’s commitment to addressing the opioid crisis with innovative solutions and compassionate care,” CEO of Highpoint Health with the Ascension Saint Thomas hospital system, Rod Harkleroad, said. “By bringing together healthcare, emergency services, non-profits skilled in recovery, and community support, we are building a safety net for those in need.”
The grant will also fund public naloxone kits in strategic locations and an investment in training programs to better equip emergency responders for opioid crises.
