NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — News 2’s meteorologists anticipate an active stretch of weather the next few days, with off-and-on rain and thunderstorms due to warming temperatures in recent days. On Wednesday, there will be a chance of severe weather, focused from Wednesday midday to late evening.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed nearly all of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky under a Marginal Risk (level 1 out of 5) for severe storms. In a Marginal Risk, there would be a few storms that would turn severe.
The primary severe weather risk for Wednesday will be wind gusts and an isolated tornado. A warm front will lift from south to north, and combined with an upper air disturbance, will create a possibility of severe weather in some thunderstorms. The timeframe is from 11 a.m. to about 10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Looking to Future Tracker for Wednesday, rain will be ongoing around daybreak for the morning hours with temperatures starting in the 40s to lower 50s. This precipitation will increase through the day. By midday, the warm front will be moving in from the south. That will provide more strength for storms to increase. While storms will be ongoing across the area throughout the afternoon, some of them will be able to strengthen to severe levels. The region has the ingredients for severe weather, but this will not occur everywhere.
Despite the rain chances, temperatures return to the 60s on Wednesday, and some lower 70s on Thursday. More rain Thursday into early Friday with a cold front passing through. Through Friday, rain amounts near 1 inch in some areas.
Expect more rain Saturday into Sunday, followed by much colder air next week! We’ll continue to follow the severe weather risk.
