BEDFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — A special education teacher was awarded more than $1 million for injuries sustained in a 2021 crash involving a semi-truck.
According to an area law firm, the plaintiff was driving along Highway 231 on Sept. 17, 2021 when a school bus ahead of her stopped to drop off students. The law firm said the special education teacher was obeying all traffic laws and stopped behind the school bus.
That’s when the law firm said a semi-truck hauling nearly 70,000 pounds of chicken parts from a chicken plant rear-ended the teacher’s vehicle, causing her to collide with two others and knocking her out of the way. She crashed into the rear of the school bus, though no children were injured in the crash.
However, the special education teacher reportedly sustained serious injuries, including a brain bleed and a broken foot that still causes her pain.
The Bedford County jury deliberated for 20 minutes before unanimously awarding her the money, which was meant to cover medical expenses, lost wages and more.
