NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man who has been arrested five times for vehicle theft has found himself back behind bars after he was caught driving a stolen vehicle, police said.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said detectives arrested 39-year-old Stephen Hughes Monday afternoon after he was seen driving a stolen 2008 Nissan Rogue on Lewis Street.
Hughes has reportedly been arrested five times for vehicle theft since 2018. He allegedly admitted to officers that he “just got in the car and was going to take it back.”
According to the MNPD, the SUV was stolen Sunday from a Maplewood Trace motel parking lot.
Hughes, who is also an ex-con for a weapons offense, was charged with vehicle theft and driving on a suspended license, officials said.
Booking records show he is being held in Metro Jail on a $16,000 bond.
