NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Another bout of significant cold air will impact the region early next week. Temperatures will be 20-30 degrees below average, with the worst of the cold happening in the morning hours of Monday and Tuesday.
This blast of Arctic air will dive in on Saturday night into Sunday, lasting well into the upcoming week. We are specifically eyeing Monday, January 20 to Wednesday, January 22, high temperatures are likely to stay in the 20s and/or teens with early morning lows in the 10s to single digits! In total from Sunday, January 19 to Wednesday, January 22, temperatures will be below freezing for over 72 hours!
Precipitation chances
The precipitation outlook does not indicate significant wintry weather chances. The only timeframe where wintry weather is possible is Sunday, January 19. At this time, this looks to be scattered snow showers with little accumulation (at most one-half inch for the Plateau).
Next Tuesday and Wednesday, the forecast models have been going back and forth regarding a Gulf low to bring some snow in southern counties and for the Deep South states. Right now, we have a 20% snow chance for this time period, but stay tuned for updates.
The main focus is the cold! This will have impacts on everyone. Make sure you have access to adequate heat and avoid time outside in the bitter cold temperatures.
