CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — More than 20 dogs, including puppies that are only a few weeks old, were rescued on New Year’s Eve from “severely neglectful conditions” in Cumberland County, officials said.
According to Animal Rescue Corps (ARC), the animals were found at a trailer about 115 miles east of Nashville.
ARC responders reportedly found 23 dogs running loose in the trailer, which was described as having “urine-soaked, feces-covered floors and broken furniture with make-shift fencing inside.”
Meanwhile, officials said seven puppies —believed to be five weeks old— were found covered in feces. All of the dogs were surrendered to ARC and are suffering from “internal and external parasites.”
Officials said they began planning a rescue operation for the animals after a concerned citizen reached out to the ARC. The operation, which has since been dubbed “Operation Countdown,” is the organization’s third deployment in Tennessee within the past eight days.
“The new year will be a fresh start for these dogs and pups” said Amy Haverstick, ARC’s Director of Operations. “Their future is much brighter and I’m happy we were able to assist them.”
The dogs were reportedly taken to ARC’s Rescue Center in Gallatin. While there, officials say each animal will receive a thorough veterinary exam, vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatments until they are transported to a trusted animal center and ready to be adopted.
According to ARC, the organization will publish its list of shelter placements for those wishing to adopts the dogs on its Facebook page.
