ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — New details have been released about the death of a man in Greenbrier that led to a statewide manhunt for the suspect, who was found hiding in a remote cave.
The victim’s stepson, 39-year-old Jimmy Anthony Cox, was taken into police custody on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
The Robertson County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) said deputies were sent to Fisher Grove Road in Greenbrier on Tuesday, Feb. 4 to conduct a welfare check.
According to an arrest report, they discovered 50-year-old Jeremy Dean Crabtree deceased on the bedroom floor, wrapped in a tarp. Investigators reportedly found several stab wounds to Crabtree’s stomach, back, hands and head.
Officers accessed Crabtree’s phone to review surveillance footage of the house, which reportedly captured Cox approaching Crabtree from behind and stabbing him in the back of the head. Cox allegedly continued to stab the man several more times, reports said.
Following the incident, Cox was added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Most Wanted list. After a one-day search using aircraft, drones, K9 units and ground patrols, Cox was located in a remote cave in the area of Smiley Hollow Road and arrested.
Cox is detained in Robertson County Jail and charged with criminal homicide.
