MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — Law enforcement took at least one person into custody Saturday evening after following up on an alert from Mt. Juliet’s license plate recognition (LPR) program.
According to the Mt. Juliet Police Department, the Guardian Shield LPR system notified officers on Saturday, Jan. 18 about a Nissan Altima with a stolen license plate driving into the city from Nashville on Central Pike.
Authorities said they quickly intercepted the car, which led to the arrest of a 53-year-old convicted felon from Nashville. He reportedly had a handgun, methamphetamine, and a suspended driver’s license in his possession.
Police said they also found a 27-year-old Nashville woman with meth. However, officials didn’t mention whether she was taken into custody.
“We’re proud to see our investment in advanced technology making a real difference in keeping Mt. Juliet safe by detecting criminal activity before it takes root,” the department wrote on social media. “Mt. Juliet has the lowest crime rate of combined crimes against persons and property than surrounding communities in Middle TN.”
No additional details have been released about Saturday evening’s incident, including the identity of the man who was arrested or the charges he faces.
