NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — As the middle of February draws near, multiple storm systems are on the way to the Middle Tennessee region. The rain ahead for Wednesday will not be as intense as Tuesday’s, with amounts mainly less than one inch. Unfortunately, there is a major heavy rain risk for Saturday along with a severe weather threat.
Wednesday brings round two of rainfall to our region. There has been some rain already this morning, mostly across the southern counties. The rain coverage will increase mid-morning and last until the early morning hours of Thursday.
Wednesday, there will be a small risk of excessive rainfall across our area. New rain totals through Thursday morning will be in the less than 1 inch, the highest totals in southern areas.

No severe weather in our region for Wednesday, but if you are traveling south of Tennessee, there will be some severe storms.

Let’s look to the weekend. We start dry on Friday with a cold start in the morning and temperatures Friday afternoon in the 50s with sunshine. Saturday, Gulf moisture streams in and we’ll be on alert for heavy rain/flooding threat and possible severe storms in our region. By Sunday, rain will changeover to a light wintry mix as temperatures drop into the 30s.

While still many days out, there are indications that flooding will be our PRIMARY weather concern for Saturday into early Sunday. The Weather Prediction Center already has our region in a Slight to Moderate risk of Excessive Rainfall to cause flooding.

At this time, the Storm Prediction Center has many Middle Tennessee counties under a Slight Risk (15%). There is an Enhances Risk (30%) of severe weather in the Deep South states.

Rain totals from Saturday to 6 a.m. Sunday could reach 3-5 inches. This on-top of what has fallen already the last few days could cause flooding problems in our area.

With our current drought showing moderate to extreme drought in parts of Middle Tennessee, this could reduce the drought impact significantly or completely!
