NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Early Christmas Eve, Metro Nashville Police Department (MPND) officers and volunteers gathered at the West Precinct headquarters to begin loading patrol vehicles with gifts for hundreds of families in the Metro area.
The gift deliveries are part of the MNPD’s annual initiative called the “Christmas Basket Program,” which began in 1961.
In a press release, officials said the program is expected to serve 419 families, including 325 households with children, and more than 90 elderly residents.
The MNPD collected over 150 bikes, 100 scooters and enough food to fill hundreds of baskets ahead of Christmas morning. Pets were also included in the program, as the MNPD shared on social media that they were distributing bags of dog food.
The police department shared the program received a $75,000 donation from Boswell’s Harley Davidson and Middle Tennessee Harley Owners Group, who have reportedly supported the Christmas Basket Program for 30 years.
