NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — In a senseless act of violence, a clerk was killed while working at a gas station in Antioch more than 21 years ago. However, Husein Senad Milanovic’s family still wonders every day who killed him.
On Dec. 14, 2003, Husein — who went by Sam for customers — was working the overnight shift at the Mapco on Bell Road. Early that morning, Husein was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the head in the office.
“The store was not in disarray. It looked like their intent was solely to rob the store, and they also robbed Mr. Milanovic, taking his wallet where he’d been saving money up to take a trip back home to Bosnia to see his family,” Metro Nashville Police Department Detective Jill Weaver said.
Husein left behind his wife and three young children.
News 2 sat down with Weaver, who is now the lead detective on the case. She said, at the time, a crashed vehicle that was found 1.8 miles away from the crime scene was the biggest lead investigators had.
There were fingerprints on the outside of the abandoned car, allowing authorities to track down the owner of it.
“They followed up on that lead pretty extensively with those individuals involved in that car,” Weaver said, but it didn’t pan out to anything solid enough to make an arrest.
All these years later, Weaver is hoping new eyes will see this case, adding that the suspect(s) must have told someone about it in the past two decades.

“Maybe they boasted about it at the time, maybe they had a change of heart over the years and confessed to somebody…but surely I don’t believe that they would’ve remained silent all these years and not told somebody,” Weaver said.
Husein’s daughter, Melina Milanovic, sent News 2 a statement:
Our father was a good and hard working man. He was working on the night of December 14th 2003 like every other night to provide for his 3 small children. He was brutally murdered without any regard for his life. Following this night, our lives were forever impacted. We find comfort in the memories we have with our dad and continue to want justice for him. We remember our dad as a kind, warm, and loving father. We have hope that someone will come forward with information on his case.
