NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) announced the arrest of a convicted sex offender for aggravated statutory rape against a 13-year-old Wednesday.
Officers with the MNPD assigned to a public housing task force were conducting routine checks of vacant apartments when they reportedly discovered 46-year-old Antwan Cowan in a bed with the teen inside a unit on South 8th Street.
In an interview with detectives, Cowan admitted to “engaging in sex with the victim three times in the last two weeks of knowing her,” the MNPD said in a press release.
The teen was reported as a runaway on multiple occasions and had been picked up by police and returned home repeatedly, the press release added. The MNPD said the Department of Children’s Services will follow up on that aspect of the case.
Cowan was convicted of two counts of sexual battery by an authority figure in 2010 and is on Tennessee’s sex offender registry. He has been charged with three counts of aggravated statutory rape.
