NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Six minors are facing charges in connection with multiple recent crimes, including burglaries, after five of them were found driving a stolen vehicle in Madison on Friday.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, officers responded to a report of a group driving around Madison in a Hyundai Elantra while waving a gun out the window. A witness was able to provide officers with details about the car, including the license plate number.
During the investigation, officers identified the Elantra as stolen from a residence in Antioch on the night of Thursday, Jan. 2.
After a search, the vehicle was found parked at Neely’s Bend Elementary School and the occupants were apprehended. Officers arrested five teens: three 15-year-olds and two 14-year-olds.
Inside the vehicle, officers found a pistol, which was confirmed to have been stolen from a licensed firearm dealer. According to the MNPD, the minors confessed to several other crimes during interviews with officers, including gun shop burglaries.
Officials said all five of the teens were charged in Juvenile Court with vehicle theft, juvenile handgun possession and carrying a weapon on school property.
A sixth teenager — aged 13 — was also implicated during the interviews. The teen was previously arrested on Dec. 9 after being found driving stolen vehicles with nine others.
During an interview with police, he reportedly confessed to participating in a smash-and-grab at Lions Vapor Smoke Shop in Antioch, where a stolen Kia Soul crashed into the front door and merchandise was stolen. During a search of his bedroom, officers reportedly found unopened vape products and two stolen firearms. He was subsequently charged in Juvenile Court with burglary.
The MNPD stated that additional charges are expected for each of the teens. No additional information was immediately released.
