NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) arrested five teens during an “investigative” traffic stop Thursday afternoon and recovered two handguns from a Nissan Titan truck in the process.
Officers with the Rapid School Safety Team responded to a shots fired call near Cane Ridge High School Tuesday resulting in a brief lockdown. A Nissan Titan was reportedly involved; authorities recovered 47 shell casings in the area of Sprucedale Drive.
As the MNPD followed up on the investigation Wednesday, they received more information about the Titan based on license plate recognition (LPR) technology from a neighbor. On Thursday afternoon, patrolling officers found the Titan in the area of Sprucedale Drive and conducted the investigative traffic stop after following the vehicle for a short time at a gas station on Old Hickory Boulevard near Bell Road.
The teens, three of whom were 15 and two of whom were 16, were taken into custody by the Rapid School Safety Team and detectives with the Violent Crimes Division. A 9mm and a .40 caliber handgun were recovered from the vehicle. None of the teens attend Cane Ridge High School, the MNPD added.
All five teens were charged with reckless endangerment and juvenile handgun possession in juvenile court. Additionally, the 16-year-old driver was charged with not having a license and alteration of identification numbers.
