BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WKRN) — A death investigation is underway following a shooting involving a man who “mistakenly” entered someone else’s Bowling Green apartment overnight, according to authorities.
The Bowling Green Police Department said it responded to a burglary in progress in the 1300 block of Scottsville Road just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 23.
While officers were en route, the resident reportedly told dispatch that someone was kicking the door to their apartment. Law enforcement said the intruder made entry into the apartment before the resident shot and killed him.
According to officials, investigators determined the individual — identified as 23-year-old Matthew Maggart — also lived at the apartment complex.
“Evidence suggests he was impaired and mistakenly entered the wrong apartment,” police posted on Facebook.
No additional details have been released about this ongoing investigation.
