WARREN COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Less than a week after a woman’s body was discovered in a vehicle in Fentress County, officials announced her husband is facing multiple charges — including homicide — in Warren County.
According to District Attorney General Chris Stanford for the 31st Judicial District, his office recently took over the investigation into the “recently charged Criminal Homicide” of 42-year-old Amber Wilson, which happened on Friday, Jan. 17 or Saturday, Jan. 18 in Warren County.
Associated charges — more specifically, evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse — are reportedly pending against Nathan Allen Wilson in Warren County, as charged on Tuesday, Jan. 21 by Stanford’s office.
On Wednesday, Jan. 22, Stanford announced Nathan is under a $150,000 bail set by the General Sessions Court in Fentress County for the abuse of a corpse charge pending there, but that charge is expected to be dismissed in the near future based on his pending charges in Warren County.
Based on the evidence obtained by Stanford’s office, he said a Fentress County detective responded to the 2800 block of Banner Springs Road in Jamestown on Saturday following a 911 call from Nathan’s brother about Nathan “making self-harm statements.” A Fentress County deputy accompanied the detective and reportedly found the body of Nathan’s wife, Amber, in the back of a Jeep Renegade.
During the investigation by the Fentress County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), Nathan admitted to hitting Amber with a vehicle either late Friday night or early Saturday morning in McMinnville, according to Stanford. In addition, Nathan allegedly told someone not associated with law enforcement about the collision.
Not only did the autopsy determine Amber died from blunt force trauma consistent with being struck by a vehicle, but the vehicle Nathan used to hit her was determined to be a damaged 2013 Ford Explorer, the district attorney general said. However, officials believe Nathan drove the Jeep Renegade to the location where law enforcement found Amber’s body inside it.
“The events constituting probable cause of the criminal conduct Nathan Allen Wilson is charged with in Warren County, to wit: Criminal Homicide, Tampering with Evidence and Abuse of a Corpse, as outlined herein began and largely occurred in Warren County, Tennessee. Thus, my office has assumed further investigation and prosecution of the criminal conduct by Nathan Allen Wilson,” Stanford said in a statement.
On Wednesday, Stanford reported Nathan was awaiting transport to Warren County for the conclusion of his prosecution, adding that he wanted to “assure the public that we are not in immediate or anticipated danger from the potential for future criminal conduct of Nathan Allen Wilson because he is expected to remain incarcerated, continually, as he makes his way back to Warren County, unless he is able to make bond in the future, after his bond is set here.”
Once Nathan is brought to the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, Stanford said he will be held without bail until the judge considers the statutory bond factors at a future court hearing. The state will seek appropriate bond conditions and the highest bail possible under the law and the facts of the case, and then the judge will approve or alter the requested bail amount at the hearing.
“I want to thank the Fentress County Sheriff’s Department, the TBI and District Attorney General – 8th Judicial District of Tennessee, Jared Effler, for their cooperation in ensuring that the transfer of the investigation and prosecution of this matter to our Judicial District will continue to be flawless and effective. More details, and those not currently available to the public-at-large, surrounding this prosecution, will be revealed through the legal process going forward,” Stanford stated. “My prayers and condolences, and those of our law enforcement team, are with the family and friends of Amber Wilson during this time of tragic and senseless loss. Our prayer is that God’s peace and love may comfort all who are and have been affected by this tragedy, in the days ahead. I also pledge to continue my fight, alongside my partners in law enforcement, in our struggle against the criminal elements running rampant today in our society.”
