NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man is in custody after he is accused of chasing a tow truck driver throughout Nashville following a repo attempt.
Police said they were sent to a call regarding vehicular assault at Garfield and Nassau Streets on Thursday, Jan. 16.
According to the victim, he was attempting to repossess a blue BMW X5, which he did not know was occupied, when the driver rammed into the tow truck while he was still inside.
The tow truck driver told police the BMW’s driver side sustained damage in the collision.
An arrest report states after the collision, the BMW driver —identified as 31-year-old Vincent Johnson— began chasing the tow truck, stopping multiple times threatening to “blow his brains out.”
The victim allegedly told officers that he never saw a weapon, but did see “a lot of suspicious hand movements” that appeared to indicate that Johnson was reaching for a weapon.
Officials said Johnson chased the tow truck driver all the way to mobile booking near Nissan Stadium. The victim reportedly saw police vehicles in the lot and parked there for safety, which led Johnson to stop chasing him and continue down Shelby Avenue.
Due to repossession GPS, the tow truck driver said he was able to coordinate with officers and a police helicopter to locate the BMW.
An arrest report states an officer attempted to pull Johnson over on the side of Nassau and Garfield Streets after the incident, but when he activated his blue lights, Johnson “put the vehicle in gear and fled at a high rate of speed.”
The officer added multiple motorists and pedestrians were in the area, which placed them at risk.
Police said the BMW was later spiked and the pursuit continued until Johnson bailed out of the vehicle, where he was then apprehended by a K-9 and taken to a local hospital.

Inside the BMW, officers reported they found two pistols. A witness allegedly told law enforcement that they observed the BMW and tow truck past at a high rate of speed toward Nissan Stadium before both vehicles turned into mobile booking.
Officers later learned that Johnson had a suspended driver’s license. He faces a slew of charges for Thursday’s incident including: aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm with intent, evading arrest in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana, failure to appear, domestic assault with bodily injury and driving on a suspended license.
Johnson is being held in Metro Jail on a $24,500 bond.
