LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. (WKRN) — A man was arrested Thursday after reportedly telling authorities he “could take out two people in the military helicopter” flying over his home in Logan County.
The Logan County Sheriff’s Office said the Emergency Communications Center received a call from the Fort Campbell Provost Marshalls Office on Tuesday, March 11 after Daniel Draper called the Army installation.
“If I wanted, I could take out two people in the military helicopter that was flying near my house,” Draper said, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies were dispatched and spoke to Draper; though he complained about disturbances from helicopters, Draper denied saying anything threatening.
However, on Thursday, March 13, the ECC received another call from Nashville’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in reference to Draper. He had allegedly called a second time and made statements that “he was going to shoot down any aircraft that flew over his house again.”
Based upon this second threat, the FAA restricted all airspace over Logan County, according to officials. The airspace restriction could have affected hundreds of flights.
After an additional interview with a sergeant from the sheriff’s office at his Adairville residence, Draper was arrested and charged with two counts of third-degree terroristic threatening. As of publication, he is being held in the Logan County Detention Center.
