NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two officers with the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) needed medical aid after they were bit during an arrest in West Nashville, officials said.
According to an arrest report, officers were called to the 6800 block of Charlotte Avenue on Thursday, Feb. 27 to respond to a report about an individual who was “looking into vehicles and pulling on door handles.”
When police arrived, they reportedly attempted to detain the suspect—identified as 43-year-old Quantiko Esaw— but a struggle ensued.
Officers said Esaw tried to hide his hands by placing them underneath his torso to avoid being handcuffed. At some point during the struggle, an arrest report states Esaw bit two officers, which led them to needing medical aid.
After Esaw was placed into custody, he allegedly gave law enforcement a socal secuirty number that did not belong to him when they tried to identify him.
Police later learned that the 43-year-old had allegedly assaulted a citizen before they arrived.
The victim of the assault told officers that Esaw “suddenly attacked him with a closed fist” as he was entering a restaurant. According to an arrest report, the victim had “obvious facial injuries,” which were consistent with being struck by a closed fist.
Esaw was charged with two counts of assault on an law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting arrest, assault resulting in bodily injury, criminal impersonation, evading arrest, and aggravated trespassing.
He is being held in Metro Jail on a $29,000 bond.
