NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) has spent the winter season stocking waters across the state with trout fish.
In December, the TWRA began its annual winter trout stocking program, which is when they stock trout in local streams, rivers and ponds.
According to News 2 meteorologists, milder air is expected to return to the region this week, resulting in temperatures reaching up to 50°F.
As temperatures begin to warm, dozens of locations across the state have been stocked with thousands of trout, marking the perfect time to cast a line!
The TWRA said the following waters were stocked with trout this month:
- Big Rock Creek – Marshall County
- Cedar Hill Park Pond – Davidson County
- Cowan City Park – Franklin County
- Harpeth River at Eastern Flank Battle Park – Williamson County
- J. Percy Priest Tailwater – Davidson County
- McCutcheon Creek – Maury County
- Normandy Tailwater – Bedford County
- West Fork Stones River – Rutherford County
- Cumberland Mountain State Park – Cumberland County
- Grundy Lake #4 – Grundy County
- Lafayette City Park – Macon County
Due to the pond freezing, trout trucks were were unable to get fish in the water at Shelby Park in East Nashville on Thursday, Jan 23. As a result, the TWRA said the stocking date will be pushed back to Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Trout stocking at Cane Creek Park in Cookeville was scheduled to occur Wednesday, Jan.22. However, for reasons unknown, the stocking has been rescheduled Wednesday, Jan. 29.
In addition to the yearly fishing license, an additional trout license is required to fish for trout in Tennessee.
