NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Undercover detectives took a Knoxville murder suspect into custody Sunday evening outside Nashville’s Greyhound station, where he reportedly planned to board a bus to California.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said the Knoxville Police Department (KPD) asked for help finding 21-year-old Kevin Martinez, who was wanted in connection with a deadly shooting in Knoxville on Thursday, Dec. 19.
According to KPD, officers were responding to a report of a gunshot victim at the North Hills Apartments on Orchard Avenue at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Thursday when they spotted a car that had crashed into a fence on Washington Pike.
Authorities said the driver — identified as 38-year-old Ernest Glenn — was found unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound. Personnel tried to provide life-saving care, but he was reportedly pronounced dead at the scene.
Meanwhile, the officers who continued to the scene of the initial call found another shooting victim, who was transported to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where he is in critical but stable condition as of Friday, Dec. 20, KPD said.
According to officials, MNPD worked with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) on Saturday, Dec. 21 and Sunday, Dec. 22 to locate Martinez before he was ultimately found at the Greyhound station. Undercover detectives from MNPD’s TITANS Unit and Central Precinct officers reportedly apprehended him when he walked outside to smoke a cigarette.
KPD said Martinez — who will be extradited back to Knoxville in the coming days — has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault following Thursday’s shooting.
