NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Another night brings another rash of auto burglaries in the Metro area.
This time, officials said the crime took place overnight at a large apartment complex off Stewarts Ferry Pike in the Percy Priest area.
Dozens of residents reportedly woke up to broken glass and lots of frustration. A 26-year-old victim, who had his rear window smashed, spoke to News 2 about the incident.
Lane Hammond said the suspects broke into his car, but they stole nothing.
“So I woke up this morning, went to my car to let my dogs out, and I find broken glass all over and this is the second this year. It’s sad,” said Hammond.
Hammond is a Missouri native who moved to the Metro area about a year and a half ago. He said this break-in marks the second time his car has been broken into.
“It is what it is. I hope they find Jesus,” said Hammond.
“You said it is what it is, but it should not be what it is, should it?” asked News 2’s Andy Cordan.
“No, it shouldn’t. It is not something we should go through but it is. This is the second time it’s happened,” he replied.
According to Hammond, it will cost him between $225 to $325 in order to replace the broken glass.
As News 2 spoke with Hammond, a maintenance man swept up broken glass. In fact, there were piles of glass in multiple parking stalls, which had vehicles with broken windows visible.
When asked if he had anything to say to those who broke into his vehicle, Hammond gave the following message:
“It sucks for you, it’s a waste of time and hopefully you got some cuts on your arm from the glass. It serves you right.”
The best description police were able to provide about the suspects was a group of men, who were described as wearing dark clothing a driving an older model sedan.
