NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Over the weekend, a Nashville homeowner was forced to break up a house party at his property that he had no idea was happening.
Homeowner Kyle Grasser said teenagers somehow got inside the newly-built home and trashed it, causing serious damage. It was like a scene from a movie: teens running out the home’s front door.
“It was anywhere from 150 to 200 [people] and — keep in mind — the video I have is just kids going out the front door,” Grasser said. “A lot of ’em went out the back door, too, thinking that was a better exit. It was shoulder-to-shoulder in here. It was a good show.”
The Metro Nashville Police Department said there was no forced entry. Grasser said somehow, someone got a key to the home, which was under construction and listed for sale. Multiple callers told the MNPD that dozens of teens were drinking and “acting disorderly in the area,” according to a vandalism report.
“I got a call from one of the neighbors around 9:30 Friday saying people were crawling in and out of the windows of the home,” Grasser said. “I was not hosting a party, so I ran over here as quick as I could [and] called 911 on the way.”
A vandalism report from the MNPD said officers found alcohol bottles and cans at the location as well as signs of drug use.
“You could smell the smoke from outside,” Grasser added. “You walked in and the floors are saturated with beer and party juice of all different kinds. They blacked out the lights [and] ripped out a few of the fixtures, so it was relatively dark in here.”
There’s an ongoing investigation to identify the people involved with this incident, the MNPD said.
“It was just a mess in here,” Grasser said. “You put a lot of work into making something like this happen and you just feel helpless against that kind of crowd.”
Grasser said he’s not only left with empty beer cans to clean up, but has to deal with the cost of cleaning and repairing the property.
“We, obviously, need to get retribution for damages,” Grasser said. “I’m not really looking to ruin anybody’s lives here with one bad decision.”
