NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — It’s still winter, but these warmer temperatures have got many people thinking about spring. The first day of spring isn’t until March 20, but we are entering the time of year when we add the most daylight.
Starting on February 8, more than two minutes of daylight gets added every day in Nashville. During the month of February, we add nearly an hour of daylight.
Sunrise goes from 6:33 a.m. on Feb. 1 to 6:01 a.m. on the 28th. Sunset goes from 5:12 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. Nashville adds about 57 minutes of daylight during February.
Locations closer to the North Pole see a larger increase than locations closer to the equator. You can experience a difference in daylight just by driving up and down I-24!
While we add less than an hour of daylight in February, locations near Canada add more than 80 minutes!
We see the third largest increase in daylight in February, just behind March and April. March is when we add the most daylight with more than an hour across all of Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky.
The longer days mean warmer temperatures. In Nashville, the average temperature goes from 40° on February 1st to 47° on the 28th. The average high temperature goes from 51° to 58°!
Don’t get used to these 60s and 70s. According to the Climate Prediction Center, temperatures will likely be cooler than normal during the second half of February.
