NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A teacher in Giles County accused of inappropriate contact with a minor was arrested over the weekend, according to law enforcement.
The Giles County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) told News 2 a tip was submitted to the office Friday claiming a teacher was having “inappropriate contact” with a female student at Giles County High School (GCHS).
Friday night, GCHS teacher Steven Hughes was arrested following a sheriff’s office investigation. He was booked into jail and charged with solicitation of a minor.
The sheriff’s office said Hughes was not a longtime employee of the school, and was terminated following his arrest. According to the GCHS website, Hughes taught in the agriculture department. Officials added he was not a resident of Giles County.
Giles County School System released the following statement to News 2.
Mr. Hughes no longer works for the Giles County School System. This is an ongoing investigation and no further comments can be made at this time.
