RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — December has proven to be a challenging month for former La Vergne Police Chief Burrel “Chip” Davis.
On December 12, Davis stood before the Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission (POST). The commission voted to decertify him after explicit text messages allegedly found on his phone amid a five-officer sex scandal at the La Vergne Police Department.
“The investigator determined that Chief Davis was aware of sexual relationships with employees and did not notify HR or interact in any way to stop those relationships from happening,” POST investigator Kevin Krieb said during the meeting.
“She was sending pictures to him and other people saying if you want a booty, call hit her up,” Davis said at the POST meeting. “So somebody who’s okay with sending pictures — how does a chief who started looking into this get fired for sexual harassment for receiving a picture?”
On Monday, Davis was arrested and charged with aggravated stalking. News 2 obtained court documents which claimed Davis attempted to access home surveillance footage at his former partner’s home after an order of protection was filed against him earlier this month.
News 2 reached out to Davis directly, who shared a statement and photos.
“My wife and I are going through a bad divorce,” Davis explained in part. “… I never once stalked her, all I did was gathered evidence to get my kids back because they are my world.”
Davis disagreed with the warrant taken out against him and called its narrative largely incorrect. He added that he’s disabled and has limited income, largely consumed by rent.
News 2 reviewed the order of protection taken out against Davis, in which the victim said she was in fear for her life.
Davis is due in court on February 4.
