NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After a yearlong investigation, the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) indicted the former director of a church’s childcare center for allegedly embezzling thousands.
Stephany Peugeot served as the Southminster Presbyterian Church’s Childcare Center, according to the MNPD. An investigation showed that Peugeot oversaw the finances and employee payroll from June 2021 through November 2023.
Police said suspicion about the childcare center’s finances arose in mid- to late-2023 when employee paychecks started to bounce. A “painstaking” investigation Detective Ryan Burger with the MNPD’s Fraud Unit alleged that “Peugeot embezzled more than $200,000 for a variety of personal expenses.”
Peugeot was taken into custody on the indictment Tuesday. As of publication, she is free on a $50,000 bond.
