OBION COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Crews from several fire departments responded to Obion County Central High School in Troy early Saturday morning after a classroom caught fire.
The Troy Fire Department responded to the scene after an automatic alert indicated a fire alarm was activated at the school. When they arrived, TFD said heavy smoke coming from a classroom had filled the hallway.
Following their assessment of the scene, TFD called for assistance from the Obion and Hornbeak Fire Departments.
Officials reported the fire was confined to the front right corner of the classroom and was quickly extinguished.
According to Obion County Schools, the fire was sparked after a small appliance overheated.
The Hornbeak Fire Department said the fire damage was contained to one classroom, and a sprinkler system also caused water damage. HFD added that efforts were made to eject smoke from the school.
Photos from the departments show the aftermath of the fire.
TFD said no faculty or students were inside the school at the time, and the cause of the fire did not appear to be suspicious.
Obion County Schools said damage was minimal and school activities would not be disrupted.
