NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — In addition to football, many people watch the Super Bowl for the commercials. Thanks to one of those commercials, an East Nashville business has found itself in the national spotlight.
East Nashville business Delgado Guitars was featured in an ad for Google during the game. Business owner Manuel Delgado is a third-generation luthier — or someone who handcrafts musical instruments.
“Our business is a family-owned business. We’ve been around for 97 years,” Delgado told News 2. “It was started by my grandfather and my great uncle in 1928 in Mexico, in Torreón, Coahuila. It was a dream that my father had before he passed away: adding a location in Nashville.”
Google chose to spotlight the business as part of their 50 States 50 Stories ad campaign. Only one business from every state was selected to participate.
“As small businesses go, our entire economy goes, so enabling small businesses to be successful and helping them achieve their ambitions helps our economy in ways that people can’t even fathom,” Harris Beber, a workspace expert for Google, said.
Delgado said the commercial has already led to more customers visiting the store. On Monday morning, the business’ website was temporarily down because so any people were trying to access it at once.
“In a city like Nashville where it’s full of artists who are trying to make it, we understand what the struggle is. You have to try to stay relevant every day,” Delgado said. “When you have this amazing company like Google and they come along and they want to do this and they want to shine a light on small businesses, it means everything.”
