NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) will implement a new shift Saturday to “enhance police visibility” and “reduce response times for non-emergency calls.”
Chief John Drake said the new D-shift will be staffed with 41 officers, five sergeants and one lieutenant. He added the overlapping work shift will operate between 12 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. seven days a week.
“D-shift officers will have the flexibility to provide additional resources to any of our 8 precincts across the county, particularly those that have a higher volume of pending calls,” added Drake.
According to the police department, officers in the D-shift have been part of precinct-based community engagement teams, which remain fully operational, but with fewer personnel.
Drake said the D-shift will provide four overlapping shifts daily, which are listed below:
- Day Detail (A-shift): 6 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Evening Detail (B-shift): 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
- Overnight Detail (C-shift): 9 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Afternoon/Evening Detail (D-shift): 12 p.m. -10:30 p.m.
In addition to supporting precincts with a high call volume, officers on the D-shift will reportedly help secure crime scenes, respond to protests and support other policing efforts.
