NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Crews across Middle Tennessee battled fires Tuesday.

The Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department contained a large grass fire Tuesday at Virtue Avenue and Effie Seward Drive. Crews reportedly arrived to find fire and smoke surrounding several homes in the neighborhood. The fire marshal’s office conducted a routine investigation into the blaze. To avoid starting a grass fire, the agency shared the following tips:
- Don’t toss cigarette butts on the ground or out the window of a car
- Avoid barbecues and other open flames in grassy areas as embers can carry and ignite dry vegetation
- Dispose of disposable barbecues properly
- Report any signs of a grass fire immediately
The Lobelville Volunteer Fire Department responded to a forest fire Tuesday evening in the area of Crooked Creek Road. The Tennessee Department of Agriculture’s Forestry division put fire breaks in place and started a back burn to help stop the spread. The department added the land owners would keep an eye on the fire.
The Mt. Juliet Fire Department responded to a fire at a small barn in the 3000 block of East Division Street, which was extinguished and contained, according to a social media post from the agency.
