BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WKRN) — A man is facing multiple charges following a hit-and-run crash earlier this month that led to another man’s death, according to Bowling Green officials.
The Bowling Green Police Department said officers were sent to check on a man lying on the side of Louisville Road near Moorman Lane on Jan. 18. When law enforcement arrived, they reportedly found 46-year-old Terry Zweig of Bowling Green dead at the scene.
Authorities said Zweig was riding his bicycle south toward Bowling Green when he was struck by what was believed to be a 2003-2009 Dodge Ram truck with damage to the right side. The incident occurred sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 and 7 a.m. on Jan. 18.
In the following days, detectives worked to identify the person responsible for hitting Zweig and leaving the scene, according to officials.
On Thursday, Jan. 30, police shared pictures of a truck and man they believed were involved in the deadly collision.
On Friday, Jan. 31, authorities announced they received multiple tips leading them to 41-year-old Michael Mestas of Rockfield. He is being held in the Warren County Regional Jail, charged with leaving the scene of a crash/failure to render aid with death or serious injury.
The Bowling Green Police Department thanked the Warren County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police for their help. No additional details have been released about this case.
