NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A student at Antioch High School was taken into custody Thursday after he made some “concerning remarks,” according to officials.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said a 17-year-old boy asked a teacher “What if I bring a gun?” and “What if I bomb the school?” These questions, when combined with other comments, led to the teen being arrested on Thursday, Feb. 6 and charged in Juvenile Court with making a false report.
“Much like a person standing in an airport line, making certain threatening statements, even in jest, are taken very seriously by school administrators, who reported this instance to the police department, and by the detectives handling investigations such as this,” the MNPD wrote in a statement.
This news comes just over two weeks after a deadly shooting occurred at Antioch High. In the aftermath of that incident, at least a dozen students in the Nashville area have been arrested for making school threats, including two minors whose threats involved Antioch High.
On Jan. 23, the FBI and MNPD went to Dupont Tyler Middle School to interview a 12-year-old boy, who admitted to posting a threat against Antioch High and Hillsboro High School on Instagram, according to officials. As a result, he was charged in Juvenile Court with making a threat of mass violence.
Then, on Jan. 26, authorities said a 17-year-old girl from Antioch High was arrested for posting an Instagram threat against her principal. She ended up being charged with communicating a threat to a school official.
During a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 5, Metro Police Chief John Drake sounded the alarm on school safety and highlighted a troubling trend of school threats.
