NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — With the help of Jarman Logging Firewood and Roger Green, the Dickson County Help Center is giving out free firewood so neighbors can heat their homes and stay warm during this weekend’s extremely cold weather.
“[Firewood] was stacked up pretty high. It’s the most I’ve ever seen us receive before,” said Angela Moore with the Dickson County Help Center.
Dickson County will also be offering utility assistance to those in need and the county’s YMCA will be opening their warming shelter on the night of Sunday, Jan. 19.
“Sometimes it’s hard to ask for help, and sometimes the need hides during times like this when it can become extremely dangerous to not have proper heating,” Moore added.
In Nashville, the Metro emergency overflow shelter on Brick Church Pike will be extending its hours of operation to 24 hours. Primary shelter options are also available at Room in the Inn, the Nashville Rescue Mission, Launch Pad, and the Oasis Center.
The Nashville Office of Emergency Management will be doing cold patrols this weekend, providing blankets, gloves, hand warmers, and other items for those who choose not to go to available shelters amid the winter weather.
