NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — There is a significant risk of severe weather in Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky starting Friday late evening (after 11 p.m.) and lasting through late Saturday night (ending Sunday morning by 2 a.m.). All severe threats are possible, including the risk for strong tornadoes.
Storm summary & timing

This will be our greatest severe threat in Middle Tennessee & Southern Kentucky in quite a while where impacts will occur in many areas. Two rounds of severe storms expected. Round one is from 11 p.m. Friday starting in western counties, lasting through 7 a.m. and reaching the areas east of I-65. Round two will last all day Saturday and end early Sunday morning. These storms will be moving quickly, so warnings may not give you much lead-time.
Severe Outlook
From Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday, areas along and west of I-65 are under the Enhanced Risk (level 3/5), a Slight Risk (level 2/5) for eastern Middle Tennessee & Southern KY, and far eastern counties are under a Marginal Risk (level 1/5). On Saturday through 7 a.m. Sunday, the majority of Middle Tennessee are under the Enhanced Risk (level 3/5), with far northwestern counties under the Slight Risk (level 2/5).

All modes of severe weather are possible. This includes damaging winds, heavy rain, hail (golf-ball size and larger), and tornadoes (some strong aka EF-2 or greater). These storms will be moving fast at 60-70mph so you will need to seek shelter and take cover quickly.

On Friday, this will become a regional severe weather risk. A Moderate Risk of severe weather in the Midwest states.


During the day Friday here, we warm up with high temperatures in the lower 80s. The winds become windy. There is a Wind Advisory for Southern KY starting Friday afternoon and lasting through Saturday evening. Wind gusts could be as high as 40 mph outside of storms.


Friday night after 11 pm until around 6 am Saturday, rain and storms will be increasing with all modes of severe weather possible. This is an overnight risk so make sure you have a way to get the warnings.
On Saturday, the severe risk turns to the Ohio & Tennessee Valleys, along with the Southeastern United States. A Moderate Risk of severe weather in parts of the southern Gulf Coast states.


Then, a second round of storms increases starting Saturday mid-morning (between 8 AM and 10 AM), lasting through late night. This is ahead of the cold front, so once again all modes of severe weather are possible.
