DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Six teenagers — including five minors — are accused of damaging mailboxes in DeKalb County last month with items like baseball bats and rocks, causing thousands of dollars’ worth of damage.
According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, a 15-year-old, a 16-year-old, three 17-year-olds, and an 18-year-old — who is under a $1,500 bond with a court date scheduled for Thursday, March 13 — have been charged with mailbox vandalism.
DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray said the charge against the 18-year-old alleges that he knowingly and intentionally committed vandalism between Feb. 17 and Feb. 27 by “damaging mailboxes throughout DeKalb County using various items including a baseball bat, wood, rocks, etc. The combined damage was $4,003.”
Ray added that, per the juvenile petitions, the five minors are accused of intentionally vandalizing multiple mailboxes in the county between Feb. 17 and Feb. 27 “using various items including baseball bats, concrete bags, rocks, etc. The combined damage investigated by the sheriff’s department is $4,003.”
The sheriff’s department said the mailbox vandalism incidents happened on Ike Adcock Road, Old Bildad Road, Turner Road, Patterson Road, McMinnville Highway, Creek Road, Old Blue Springs Road, Antioch Road, Jacobs Pillar Road, Students Home Road, Keltonburg Road, Medlen Lane, Short Mountain Highway, Green Hill Road, and Joines Road.
