NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — As the Department of Veterans Affairs has undergone a series of layoffs across the country, some employees with Nashville’s Veterans Affairs system have also been dismissed this month.
A spokesperson for the VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System told News 2 that “a small number of probationary staff” has been dismissed this month.
“This decision will have no negative effect on Veteran health care, benefits or other services and will allow VA to focus more effectively on its core mission of serving Veterans, families, caregivers and survivors,” the statement reads, in part.
On Monday, the Department of Veterans Affairs announced 1,400 employees were fired across the U.S. It is unclear if the “small number” of layoffs was associated with Monday’s announcement.
According to The Hill, Monday’s announcement follows the Feb. 13 firings of 1,000 probationary employees with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The spokesperson added the agency could not discuss specific personnel matters due to privacy concerns.
