NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The top weather story is the snowstorm that will impact Middle Tennessee and Southern Kentucky this week. The forecasted snow totals aren’t expected to break any records, but it will likely be our largest February snowstorm since 2021.
February is the third and final month of meteorological winter. It’s not Nashville’s snowiest month, which goes to January, but it is our second snowiest on average. Music City’s average snowfall for the month is 1.5″. The annual average is 4.8″.
Since 2021, there has been a lot of snow that has fallen in January, but no measurable snow has fallen in Nashville during February. Only a trace of snow was recorded in February 2022, 2023, and 2024.
Nashville’s snowiest February was in 1979 when we received 18.9″ of snow! Here are the top 4 snowiest Februarys in Music City.

This week’s snowstorm is expected to arrive Tuesday evening and move out Wednesday midday. This means the daily snowfall amounts will be split between the days. If we were to get more than 2.8″ on either Tuesday or Wednesday, it would be Nashville’s largest daily February snowfall since 2003!
It’s interesting to see that in recent years snow has been hard to find in February.
