ANTIOCH, Tenn. (WKRN) — Two men were arrested after a stolen vehicle was found stripped of its parts during a traffic stop.
The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) said detectives executed a search warrant at a garage in the 5700 block of Cane Ridge Road on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
Inside the garage, detectives recovered evidence showing that was the place where the Challenger, which was reported stolen in Murfreesboro on Jan. 29, had been stripped of its parts.
According to police, the search warrant stems from a traffic stop that was made Tuesday along Greer Road. Two men in a pickup truck —identified as 31-year-old Jeremy Smith and 29-year-old Tyler Whitney— were reportedly stopped while pulling a trailer partially covered by tarp.
On the trailer, officers said they found the stripped Challenger, which was described as “only a shell of the original vehicle.”
Smith, who was driving the pickup truck, allegedly told authorities that “he didn’t steal the Challenger, he just picked it up on the side of the road.” Detectives reported Smith changed his story multiple times before finally saying he picked the car up from a property on Cane Ridge Road.
Both Smith and Whitney were charged with vehicle theft and evidence tampering. They are being held in custody on a $75,000 bond.
