RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — There’s a new plan in place at the La Vergne Public Library to encourage patrons to read local.
Library staff members wanted to showcase the creativity of writers in their area, so they came up with the idea of making a “Local Authors” section near the front of the building.
“Our goal with this display is to not only give fresh perspectives, but to invite visitors in so they can read the stories that their neighbors are writing, and to also foster a love of reading,” Kimbrough said.
The space is dedicated to books written by Rutherford County residents like Amy Anguish, a Christian author with 15 titles to her name.
“My first book actually released in 2017 which is right after we moved to Middle Tennessee, so all of my books have been released since I’ve lived in this area,” Anguish said.
So far, the shelf has 20 books from more than a dozen local authors. Kimbrough expects that number will only continue to grow.
“They have their books on Amazon, but they want to just get them out there to the community, and this is a great place to start,” Kimbrough said.
The La Vergne Public Library isn’t the only place Anguish’s books can be found, but she said seeing her name on display never gets old.
“It is always exciting to walk in and see my book on the shelf,” Anguish said. “What’s even more exciting is when I walk into a library and my kids look at the ‘Local Authors’ display and they’re like, ‘Mom, your book is not there, somebody must have checked it out,’ and that’s so exciting to think that somebody is reading my story.”
Anguish’s 16th book, Pets Amore is scheduled to be released on Feb. 11. It’s a Christian romantic comedy coming out just in time for Valentine’s Day.
