NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 19-year-old was charged and four juveniles were brought into police custody after allegedly evading a traffic stop in South Nashville.
According to court documents, Joel Alvarado, 19, was charged Saturday after he was identified as the driver of a Chevrolet Camaro that led police on a pursuit.
Officials said early Saturday morning, officers identified fake Tennessee tags displayed on the Camaro and attempted to conduct a traffic stop as it drove northbound on Nolensville Pike.
The driver of the Camaro allegedly ignored police lights and sirens as it drove through a red light at the intersection of Nolensville Pike and Harding Place, which nearly caused a “significant crash,” according to law enforcement.
The vehicle continued to evade police onto Paragon Mills Road, eventually being stopped in the 400 block after spike strips were deployed.
Officials said Alvarado and “four to five” other individuals got out of the vehicle and fled. Alvarado ran to the 400 block of Benita Drive, where he was arrested.
Alvarado was booked into Metro jail and charged with felony evading arrest by motor vehicle with risk of injury and a felony charge for altering a title, plate, registration or permit. He also faces misdemeanor charges for evading arrest, reckless driving and driving without a license. His bond is set at $22,500.
Four juveniles were also taken into police custody following the incident, according to reports. No additional information regarding charges against the teens was available.
